Blood & Oil

I make the schedule in my mind
to make the trains run on time
if they're late by the time that they've arrived
i've drowned in a sea of salt and lime
til the black tides rise
the field is dry as the glass when they arrive
til we feel black rain
the blood's been drained and the oil's taken it's place
red tar leaks in my hair
with positrons in for repair
i don't expect anyone to take care
so when help comes it's all amber and clear
when we're neck deep in black water
the last thing left to try
is flush the hard drive halfway drowned
wait for rings orange and white
i'm trying not to shut down
but something's broke inside
and the sheep i've counted up til now
have been glowing blue light

It's Always Windy Here

I remember neighbors over the hill at the grill, for the birth
I wondered if you'd hear the sand, through the land, through the earth
With your neighbors the ants
A horse watches over, it reaches out for the oil in the soil where you lay
It goes a black mile down, through the ground, to the place
Where you'll never be found
Never be found, always the sound
I remember when the ants and the cans dragged me down
Down through the sand leaving the can
I remember when we blacked out with the old man's old man
Good times with the famine folks
the kids out on their own
I found time to visit you
in your new home
Always with a whirring drain
The dirt milk in a dirt shake
The waters were rising
With a black horse in the dirt rain
I've seen the middle of the night
Memories left behind
The neighbors were laughing
And the breeze rushed through my mind
I've seen the middle of the day
memories they've replaced
Everytime there's something
new there to explain
